Chawan – or tea bowl is a bowl used for preparing and drinking tea. Clay body – fine white high-temperature stoneware from Germany. Glaze – titanium white with cobalt and iron oxide, fired to 1280˚C.

Description

Chawan (茶碗; literally “tea bowl”) is a bowl used for preparing and drinking tea. This one-of-a-kind ceramic art piece is designed that of a Han Tsutsu-gata style or a half-cylinder shape tea bowl. Created in Prague and made from fine white stoneware from Germany. Thrown on an electric wheel and then meticulously trimmed by the artist’s hand. The outside is notched cut with scribed markings of spirits, the foot is circular with a notched cut. High fired in an electric kiln to 1280 ºC. with a titanium glaze revealing soft cobalt blue wash and deep cobalt blue scribed motif and marks of rich iron oxide browns. The inside glaze is a crackle clear wheat color with titanium micro snow crystals.
